Political Threads - An Idea
The board is littered with political threads, so I propose we create two sticky threads where people can discuss politics until their hearts content.

Forum 1 - Lefty WHO. A place where all left-wingers can raise issues. Rights are banned, so there's a cross-fertilisation of ideas.

Forum 2 - Righty WHO. See above, but for right-wing points of view.

If you post threads outside of the left/right thread, you're banned for a week.

I like a political post as much as the next person, but leave some space for West Ham, Favourite Crisps, etc.

Re: Political Threads - An Idea
Actually, I agree it's good this site is relatively uncensored.

People tend to create these self-affirming discourse bubbles or, if you like echo-chambers, where they reinforce each-others' narrow discourses and it's places like this that force them to face the limitations. So on here it's basically ageing disaffected Labour voters who can't cope with their reactionary and, let's face it basically racist views, not being reflected by the party who would naturally satisfy their material, fundamentally anti-capitalist, anti-establishment interests. Obviously they freak out when this is pointed out to them and behave in a very aggressive manner, but of course I understand the same thing happens if, say, you go on a middle-class hippy vegetarian, meditation site and tell the sponging wankers to respect their long-suffering parents' good advice to have a wash, get a haircut and go out and get a proper job.

Re: Political Threads - An Idea
Bit difficult to get a consensus on what is and isn't political. Most of it is obvious and overt but some posters' opinions on innocuous subjects will inevitably betray some political bias.

That and football itself increasingly being used as a vehicle for propagating political propaganda (rainbow laces, kneeling etc) makes conflict on forums like this inevitable.

On the plus side, it's refreshing to see a site where people can genuinely say what they like without being censured, and it's perhaps the lack of sites like this elsewhere that has led to the rise of so many threads here. The only censure I have seen (and rightly so) has been on the mental health thread.

Some posters actually do enough work and get enough sleep, strange as that might seem to you.

I know it sounds a crazy idea, but you could ban political threads completely like most other forum sites do?

Nothing crazy about that at all, some posters might actually get some work done and catch up with some sleep

Re: Political Threads - An Idea
OK - so getting rid of somebody who has amassed savings and a pension and can (and would) spend it in-country, and replacing them with somebody who has paddled across the English Channel on the back of a plastic crocodile requiring housing and social care (the money for which could have been spent on NHS incubators for premature babies) is an improvement?

Can't spent the same money twice.

Either a fully funded retired person occupies one of the finite spaces available in UK society, or they are replaced by somebody who is a permanent financial burden on that same society.

Never mind "Education! Education! Education!", it's all "Benefits! Benefits! Benefits!" these days. Guess who pays for that?

Personally, now, I don't give a shit what the UK (and it's resident population) does to itself - I chose to retire "abroad" before the turn of the century, and nothing I've witnessed on my numerous returns to the land of my birth has given me any encouragement to change my mind*.

* - Entitled lefty mob: "Good. Fuck off, but leave all your money here so our taxes don't have to rise in compensation for your scarpering".
